ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Annette Cargill

"A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write--
if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.
What one can be, one must be." Abraham Maslow

I am an abstract painter.
I am always looking for patterns and connections, causes and effects, and structures in chaos and imperfections.
I am a seeker of truth in all things around me. Making abstract art is a continuation of my seeking.
I like the conscious and subconscious aspects of painting. I like the endless possibilities.
My Painting is a microcosm of LIFE; an opening and unfolding of choices: mistakes and successes.
And then, there are the mistakes that  are successes.
Painting is a meditative, personal experience of exploration which informs me daily.

“We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth,
at least the truth that is given us to understand.” Pablo Picasso
